In the wake of years-long Congressional inaction, President Donald Trump signed a state of emergency recently to enable the release of funds to beef up security on the U.S. Southern border, including walls and fencing in areas overrun by illegal immigration, migrants and drug cartel smugglers.
But seven Senators from his own party are reportedly prepared to vote to overturn that Presidential declaration on Thursday, to stop the border wall from being built.
According to The Hill, Mitt Romney just joined Mike Lee, both from Utah, and 5 other Senators in announcing his opposition to his own party’s president:
“I will today vote for the resolution of disapproval. This is a vote for the constitution and for the balance of powers that is at its core,” Romney said in a statement.
“I am seriously concerned that overreach by the executive branch is an invitation for further expansion and abuse by future presidents. …Where Congress has enacted a specific policy to consent to an emergency declaration would be both inconsistent with my beliefs and contrary to my oath to defend the Constitution,” Romney added.

And an angry radio host Mark Levin took to the airways to denounce the “Constitutional” rationale given by Senators Lee and Rand Paul (R-KY) against the president’s action, saying they don’t seem to understand the Constitution or separation of powers at all:
